Chandigarh, February 27
Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma has directed officials to immediately complete the ongoing development works near the newly build Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium at Mullanpur in New Chandigarh that will host its first ever mega event on March 23.
The stadium has been chosen by Punjab Kings franchise as their home ground for the Indian Premier League (IPL). The stadium will host its first match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on March 23. As per the first phase of schedule, only one match will be organised here, followed by other matches during the second phase.
Meanwhile, Verma chaired a review meeting today with officials of Punjab Urban Planning & Development Authority (PUDA), Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and representatives of Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) to review the progress of ongoing engineering and civil works near the stadium.
Verma said construction of approach roads and bridges leading to this stadium should be completed without any delay adding that any sort of delay was unwarranted and undesirable.
The meeting was attended by PUDA CA, Apneet Riyat; GMADA CA, Rajeev Kumar Gupta; Chief Engineer, Balwinder Singh; Chief Town Planner, Mandeep Kaur and Punjab Cricket Association Secretary, Dilsher Khanna.
