Experts dwell on participation of women in technical research

Chandigarh, December 18

The Chandigarh unit of Becton Dickinson (BD), a global healthcare organisation, hosted the second STEM (Science Technology Engineering Management) meet. The agenda of the meet was ‘professional development of associates’. The organisation is a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Paul Robichaud, Managing Director (India), SWE, chaired the event, which was attended by around 10 companies from the tricity.

These companies have been working to promote women in the field of technology and engineering.

Mandeep Gill, manager (technical writing), BD-Chandigarh, inaugurated the event with a welcome note. She discussed cross-industry collaboration that aimed at promoting women in the STEM and overall professional development of employees. She laid emphasis on the significance of conducting regular year-round events to promote entry of women in the STEM.

Robichaud underlined benefits of the SWE’s mentoring and leadership competency model. The competency model helps set direction for developing leadership characteristics and attributes. The intent is to improve skills and motivate changes that enhance leadership skills.

At the end of the event, saplings were given to all participants to highlight the need of protecting environment.
