Extortion: 4 Babbar Khalsa members in judicial custody

A local court today sent four members of a banned terror outfit, ‘Babbar Khalsa’, to judicial custody in connection with a case of extortion from a Mohali chemist.

The suspects were identified as Harshdeep Singh, alias Harsh, Amandeep Singh, both residents of Yamunanagar, Brahmjot Singh, a resident of Ambala, and Ravi Kumar, a resident of Naraingarh.

The suspects were already in police custody.

Gurdayal Singh, a resident of Phase X, had registered a complaint with the police wherein he had stated that he ran a business of medicines and his factory was located in the Industrial Area here. Gurdayal stated that on January 17, he received a call from an unknown person, who had introduced himself as a member of Babbar Khalsa. The caller threatened him and demanded Rs 5 lakh as extortion money, alleged the complainant.

A case was registered under Sections 384, 385, 387, 294 and 506 of the IPC at the Phase XI police station.

After investigating the case, the police arrested the four suspects. The police had not recovered any weapon from their possession.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed that they, along with some more members, had created a WhatsApp group in the name of Babbar Khalsa.
