SP (Investigation) Harman Hans said the suspects, who were arrested from a house in Kirti Nagar, New Delhi, were running fake call centres and duping people on the pretext of renewing their insurance policy online.

The incident came to light when the suspects duped a Mohali man of Rs 15 lakh on the pretext of renewing his insurance policy. A case had been registered against the duo under Sections 406, 420 and 120-B of the IPC at the Zirakpur police station.

SP Harman Hans and DSP Rupinder said the duo used to pretend themselves as bank managers and officials of the IRDA and other companies. “We have recovered several mobile phones in which fake SIM cards were used. Their bank accounts are frozen. More members of the gang will be arrested soon,” said the SP.

The Mohali police had already arrested 16 persons of the gang so far in different cases.
