A Panchkula man posing as a constable of Haryana Police for travelling free in trains was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) today.

The suspect has been identified as Puti Lal, a resident of Pinjore in Panchkula district.

Raj Kumar, SHO, GRP, Chandigarh, said during checking, the cops questioned him but he couldn’t show a valid identity card.

On questioning, the suspect said he had worked as an special police officer SPO with Haryana Police and used to disguise as a police official for travelling free in trains.

A case was registered under Section 419 (punishment for cheating by personation) and 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by the public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and 137 of the Railway Act (travelling without ticket).
