A 62-year-old dairy farmer died after the roof of the cattle shed collapsed in Batoli village, Lalru, this afternoon.

Trapped under the debris, victim Jasveer Singh was rescued by the by village residents, but died on his way to the hospital.

This is the second death in Lalru caused due to heavy rain since August 29. Earlier, 65-year-old farmer Janak Raj died while crossing the Jharmal rivulet.

The body was shifted to the mortuary of Dera Bassi sub-divisional hospital. Four buffaloes died while 12 cattle were injured in the accident. Health Minister Balbir Singh and Dera Bassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa visited the family and expressed condolences. They assured the family of financial help.

Villages across Dera Bassi and Lalru are facing a flooding threat as water level in Ghaggar continues to stay near danger level.
