Farmer unions to regroup today for final decision on continuing protest

The protesting farmer unions have decided to call another meeting on September 6 to take a final decision on continuing the ongoing protest at the Sector 34 open ground.

The protesting farmer unions have decided to call another meeting on September 6 to take a final decision on continuing the ongoing protest at the Sector 34 open ground. The famer unions’ leaders will once again gather at the Sector 34 ground on Friday morning and by afternoon they will decide whether to continue the protest or not.

On Friday, many other representatives of these farmer unions are expected to reach here to hold another show of strength. “We have decided to regroup again on Friday and take the final call. We will convey our decision by 2 pm. Earlier, we had decided to take a decision today, but the meeting with Punjab Chief Minister ended late in the evening,” confirmed a union leader.

Earlier in the day, CM Bhagwant Mann had called the leaders of farm organisations BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) and Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union for a meeting. Two letters were issued conveying the same on Wednesday evening, addressed to BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) president and Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union president. A three-hour long meeting started at 3pm and later in the evening, the farmer unions decided to hold another mahasabha on Friday at the protesting site. Meanwhile, the farmer unions continued their stir at the Sector 34 ground today.
