Farmers, Powercom employees hold protest, burn copies of Amendment Bill
Say roll back anti-farmer and anti-employee decisions without any delay
Samyukt Kisan Morcha, farmers union members, Powercom and contractual employees, pensioners and junior engineers today staged a protest and burnt copies of the Electricity Amendment Bill-2025 outside Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) offices in Mohali, Zirakpur and Kharar.
A joint protest for three hours was held at the division office in the Industrial Area, Phase III, Mohali, today afternoon. Farmer leaders and electricity workers burnt copies of the Electricity Amendment Bill, 2025, and raised slogans against the Punjab and Central Governments during the protest.
The protesters were addressed by farmer leaders Paramdeep Singh Baidwan, Kirpal Singh Siaun, Angrez Singh, Pradeep Singh, Nachhatar Singh Baidwan and others.
Speaking on the occasion, they said, “The Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 has been brought by the Central Government to completely privatise the Power Department and for the loot and profit of corporate houses. The Punjab Government is selling land of government and semi-government departments. There is also great unrest among farmers over the Seeds Bill brought by the Central Government.”
They demanded that the anti-farmer and anti-employee decisions be rolled back without any delay. The protesters warned that if this does not happen, they would intensify their struggle.
