Panchkula, February 13
Contrary to fears that traffic diversions because of the farmers' protest call could cause chaos, the situation in Panchkula on Tuesday remained under control as the police in the district remained on high alert. The influx of vehicles into the city due to traffic diversions towards Panchkula did not make a major impact on vehicular movement in the affected areas.

ROUTE 2: Chandigarh to Panchkula-Barwala-Shahzadpur-Saha to Yamunanagar-Radaur-Karnal
ROUTE 3: Chandigarh to DeraBassi-Barwala-Shahzadpur-Saha to Yamunanagar-Radaur-Karnal
In order to provide alternate routes to commuters from and towards New Delhi, Haryana Police had notified routes through Panchkula - traffic to Delhi from Punjab and Chandigarh was directed through the Panchkula-Barwala-Shahzadpur-Saha route to reach Karnal. Similarly, traffic coming from Delhi was directed to turn from Karnal to either take the Yamunanagar road or the Shahabad road to reach Saha Chowk and towards Shahzadpur-Barwala-Panchkula road to reach Chandigarh.
The influx of vehicles into Panchkula was expected to affect the movement of traffic, and the police in the district were on high alert. Police had been deputed to strategic locations to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Police officials said that the diversions led to only a marginal increase in traffic, adding that vehicular movement on the Panchkula-Barwala road remained unaffected.
Issue should be resolved through dialogue: Speaker
Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta today said farmers should resolve their issues through dialogue. Gupta today presided over meetings with the sarpanches of Panchkula.
He said the PM had always been eager to resolve the demands of the farmers. "The Central Government has always respected farmers. Chaudhary Charan Singh and Dr MS Swaminathan were conferred with the Bharat Ratna recently by the BJP government for the same reason," he said. "A confrontation between farmers and the Centre is bad for both parties," he added.
Gupta said the Central Government held talks with the farmers on Monday. "They reached resolution on some demands. The farmers need to have patience and try to resolve the matter through talks," he said.
