With prices of essential commodities, including fuel and LPG cylinders, rising to an unprecedented level, farmers from Chandigarh and Panchkula today staged a protest against the BJP government on a call given by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha.

BKU (Charuni) leader Karam Singh, who led the protest at the Chandimandir toll plaza in Panchkula, said, “This is an issue that affects not just farmers, but everyone, including labourers, youth, students and women.”

In Chandigarh, a protest took place at the Sector 21 petrol pump. Holding placards, protesters raised slogans against the Modi government for its “total failure to keep the prices of all essential commodities under control, facilitating inflation and looting people through heavy taxes”. — TNS
