Farmers, led by BKU (Ekta Sidhupur) president Gurmeet Singh Roorki, today held a protest in front of the DC office and raised slogans against both the Union and state governments in support of their demands.

Addressing the dharna, farm leaders said they had been giving representations to the government, demanding compensation for the loss of vegetables, wheat and other items due to hailstorm and the wheat gutted in fire incidents in various villages of the district. The marginal farmers, who were already under debt, could not afford the loss and the government had not given any compensation despite assurances.

They also demanded compensation for the loss of trolleys and other items allegedly damaged by the police on the Sambhu and Khanauri borders and strict action against cops who allegedly beat up protesters and forcefully evicted them from the morchas.
