Fatehgarh Sahib wears deserted look amid bandh
Following the Punjab Bandh call by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM, Non-Political) all the shops and other establishments in towns of Sirhind, Bassi Pathana, Khamano, Amloh, Sanghol remained closed.
In Mandi Gobindgarh, however, most shops remained opened and the shopkeepers confronted SKM leaders to oppose the forceful closrure.
The movement of devotees at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup Sahib remained unaffected as thousands reached the gurdwaras and the shops in the vicinity of remained open. The police were discouraging the commuters, not allowing their vehicles to move forward.
The farmers had staged dharnas at railway lines near Madhopur Bypass, blocked the National Highway at Sirhind, Patiala-Sirhind Road at Rurki, Ludhiana-Chandigarh Road at Khamano, Fatehgarh Sahib-Chandigarh Road at Chuni and other link roads as well.
The traffic was completely disrupted, no train reached the Sirhind railway station and the bus stand also remained empty. City markets, government banks and other institutions remained closed, but essential services including medicine shops were not affected. Passengers going to other cities had to face problems due to bus services being suspended. However, private vehicles were moving freely.
