On a complaint of the deceased’s mother, Nitika (26), the police arrested Dehradun native Abhishek after registering a case against him at the Zirakpur police station.

The mother said they had got married in November 2020 and had a baby boy, Sarthak, in January 2022. The couple started having frequent fights and arguments.

On June 11, the woman had gone to her in-laws’ place along with her husband for a function where the duo again had a fight. The couple returned home around 6 am and had a fight following which Nitika was turned out of the house. She left for her sister’s place while the child was “withheld” by his father. In the evening, when she returned, she found the house locked. The next morning, she found Abhishek sitting there with the child lying on the bed motionless. He told her that he had allegedly choked the child to death.
