The Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation today accorded ex-post facto approval for arranging refreshment amounting to Rs 6.75 lakh during the cricket matches organised as part of UTCA Gully Cricket League 2024 from July 26 to August 12.

It is jointly organised by the Union Territory Cricket Association and (UTCA) and city police. Same arrangements were also made by the corporation last year.

In the last house meeting, AAP and Congress councillors had questioned MC’s funding for the tournament, saying that senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon is president of the UTCA and this forum is not inviting the mayor or councillors to matches. They had contended that instead BJP president Jatinder Pal Malhotra was invited to one of the opening matches and accused the BJP of playing politics over the tournament.

The meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Kuldeep Kumar in the presence of Commissioner Anindita Mitra and other members, discussed the agenda item regarding adjustment of car bazaar fee and recommended it for the ensuing meeting of the general house for taking a final decision in this regard.

A request in this regard was received from the car dealers association regarding their president Gulshan Kumar, who died on May 25, and as a mark they did not operate the car bazaar on May 26. They requested for adjustment of the fee for the said day that has already been deposited with the corporation.

Accordingly, an agenda to adjust the weekly fee of Rs 2.17 lakh, Rs 7,000 each with respect to 31 car dealers had been deposited, was taken up.
