FDA seizes syrup bottles in Ambala

The Department of Food and Drug Administration today seized bottles of cough syrup, which had suspected impurity from Ambala on Sunday.
State drug controller Narendra Ahuja, said, “We received a communication from the J&K state drug controller, regarding ‘Cold Best PC’ syrup. Some kids have lost lives in Ramnagar area of Udhampur due to this medicine. The syrup was tested at the PGI and impurity has been found in it.”
He said the medicine was prepared by a Kala Amb-based firm.
“The medicine is used for cough and fever. Proplyene glycol is being used in the medicine and due to its impurity ‘diethylene glycol’, kids suffered health issues, including kidney failure. The matter is being investigated in Himachal Pradesh and following the details being shared about the areas where the stock was sent, raids are being conducted,” he said.
Ahuja said, “We have recovered 300 bottles of the said syrup having same batch number. The samples will be sent for testing and further action will be taken accordingly.”
