Chandigarh, April 15

Haryana Health and Family Welfare Minister Anil Vij today said teams of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Department raided pharmacies operating without a licence in Panchkula.

He said such pharmacies were running in nursing homes or clinics in residential sectors in Panchkula city.

The FDA teams conducted simultaneous raids at Drishti Eye Hospital, Sector 10; Skina Care, Sector 10; Dr Trehan’s Neuro-Psychiatry and De-addiction Centre, Sector 12; and Peace Mind Clinic, Sector 14. Medicines were being sold over the counter in open shops in Skina Care and Drishti Eye Hospital. No licence was found with either of these shops. Vision Pharmacy, being run from the Drishti Eye Hospital, has been given a licence for the Sector 11 market, but no medicine was found there. Instead, medicines were kept without a licence at Drishti Eye Hospital. The department has taken these in its possession and collected samples.

Similarly, Dr Rajan Gupta runs Skina Care and teams took samples of 12 types of medicine. The teams searched the sale purchase records and took these in their possession for investigation. Similarly, six samples were taken from the dispensary of Trehan’s Neuro-Psychiatry Centre and five samples from Peace Mind Clinic. Here, the doctor was found dispensing medicines in his chamber. It is noteworthy that while issuing a no-objection certificate (NOC) to nursing homes and clinics in residential areas, the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) puts a condition that chemist shops cannot be opened in these nursing homes or clinics. As per the HSVP norms, if the conditions of the NOC are violated, the plot can be resumed. The FDA, Haryana, will send its report to higher officials of the HSVP. The Health Minister warned doctors, who are running nursing homes/clinics in sectors by taking an NOC, to close the illegal shops or be ready to face strict action.
