A fire triggered by the battery of a laptop destroyed goods worth Rs 8 lakh at a flat in Savitry Green-2 on the Gazipur Road here on Tuesday morning.

Smoke engulfed the house. A woman, who was alone at the time of the mishap, got locked inside. Neighbours broke the door of the house to bail her out.

The house owner, Sandeep Choudhary, said he was out for some work. A fire tender had to be called to control the fire.
