Five juveniles held for boy’s murder at Ram Darbar park in Chandigarh
Five juveniles have been apprehended for the brutal murder of a teenager in Ram Darbar here on Thursday evening.
The murder took place at Cactus Park in Ram Darbar, Phase 2, around 7 pm when Sagar Rajput, the victim and local resident, was attacked and stabbed multiple times. The incident was witnessed by his father, Mahesh Kumar, who was out on an evening walk.
In his statement to the police, Kumar said he saw two boys, who have been identified, and their associates arguing with his son. The altercation escalated rapidly and the two boys stabbed Sagar several times. When Kumar tried to intervene, the attackers threatened to kill him before escaping into the adjoining forest.
With the help of local residents, Kumar rushed his son to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead.
A case was registered under Sections 103, 3(5), 351(2), 351(3), 190, 191(2), and 191(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Sector 31 police station.
An investigation into the case, led by Inspector Rajiv Kumar, SHO of the Sector 31 police station, resulted in the arrest of all five juvenile suspects. Knives used in the attack have been recovered.
Initial reports that Sagar was attacked while playing cricket in the park stood false and were rebutted by the police official.
Sources said the teens had an altercation a week ago, which led the suspects to single out Sagar in the park and purposely attacked him.
