Poor visibility owing to foggy weather played a spoilsport as only 21 overs were bowled on the opening day of the Col Ck Nayudu Trophy match between hosts Chandigarh and Baroda, at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 26.

Chandigarh skipper Arjun Azad won the toss and elected to field. His decision was spot on as Amit Shukla claimed two wickets to reduce the visitors to 90/3 at the drawn of the stumps. Baroda opened their innings with Nihar Vaghela and Smitrajsinh. Smitrajsinh (5) was cleaned bowled by Neel Dhaliwal in the 7th over.

This brought Baroda skipper Jay Gohli (25) to the middle. He pushed the total to 42 before he was sent back to the pavilion by Shukla. The visitors received another jolt as opener Vaghela (12) became Shukla’s second victim. Thereafter, the Baroda innings witnessed some stability. The team closed the opening day at 90/3.

Ranji Trophy matches hit too

Bad light affected third day of the Ranji Trophy matches between Chandigarh and Gujarat, and Punjab and Tripura. At the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, Gujarat lads posted 86/2 against hosts Chandigarh as only 26 over were bowled. At PCA Stadium in Mohali, not even a single ball was bowled between Punjab and Tripura.
