Food units sans licence on radar



Chandigarh: The Food Safety Department of the UT will initiate strict action against units manufacturing food items without registration, licence or in unhygienic conditions. An official spokesperson said during the inspection of a sweets manufacturing unit at Palsora village in Sector 55, Chandigarh, it was found that the owner was running the unit without the requisite licence. During the trial of the case, the Chief Judicial Magistrate convicted the person under the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006. He was sentenced to undergo imprisonment till the rising of the court and pay Rs30,000 fine. In case of default of the payment, the convict was to undergo simple imprisonment for one month. TNS

Free food for Covid patients

Chandigarh: A group of volunteers by the name of Chandigarh Community Kitchen has once again taken the initiative to organise, cook and deliver free hot food to senior citizens and Covid patients, who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. The food is hygienically prepared at Sanatan Mandir, Sector 32-C, Chandigarh, and delivered in the tricity by members of Cyclegiri and other volunteers. Different dals (pulses), vegetables, rice and roti are prepared at the temple. People, who need dinner, can also order in advance with lunch. The needy can contact at helpline numbers 9814441944 and 9316130187 one day before. Covid report is mandatory for availing free meal service. TNS

MUN begins at city college

Chandigarh: The ninth edition of the SD Model United Nations (MUN), “Buland-e-Shaksiyat”, started at GGDSD College, Sector 32, here on Saturday. The two-day virtual international conference is being attended by more than 100 delegates, which includes students from various colleges in India, Canada, the USA, Australia, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The committees of this year’s MUN will focus on various topics such as the frugal economies of the world, the refugee crisis in South Asia and coping with the rising militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
