Former Punjab cricketer Chaman Lal dies

Ludhiana, February 15

Former Punjab cricketer Chaman Lal Malhotra died at his Ludhiana residence last night. He was 84.

Malhotra, who represented Punjab from 1952-71, is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Fondly called Kaptan Ji, Malhotra scored 2,418 runs at an average of 37.78 in 46 First-Class matches for Punjab. He also took 42 wickets.

Former chairman of the PCA selection committee, Malhotra captained Eastern Punjab in 1957 and also led the united Punjab in the Ranji Trophy for 10 years.

The last rites were performed at the Civil Lines crematorium here today.
