Former student council candidate protests against university’s affidavit
Former Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) 2023 presidential candidate, Divyansh Thakur held a symbolic demonstration on the Panjab University campus by distributing controversial university’s protest affidavit in the form of toilet paper rolls across campus washrooms.
He called the decision by university officials “absurd and unconstitutional attempt” to silence student voices and depoliticise campus discourse. “If they treat our dissent like filth, we’ll show them where their affidavit belongs — not in our democracy, but down the drain,” he said.
The demonstration aimed to question the legality, morality and sheer irony of requiring students to submit affidavits in order to exercise their democratic right to protest, said Thakur. For the 2025–26 academic session, university has asked students to submit an affidavit confirming not to participate in protests or sit-ins without written permission from the authorities concerned.
