Fortnight on, rabies vax out of stock at Mohali health centres
For the past fortnight, government hospitals in Mohali are not administering rabies vaccine as the stock had exhausted on December 25.
Procured 2,000 vials, says civil surgeon
We have procured 2,000 injections from the Bathinda warehouse and the injections. The SMOs have been asked to place their demand. Accordingly, the injections would be provided to them at the earliest. — Sangeeta Jain, mohali civil surgeon
Since then, stray dog, animal bite cases are not being attended to and redirected to private hospitals. Anti-rabies injection is administered free or at nominal cost in government hospitals, primary health centres and community health centres. In private facilities, the charges are around Rs 1,200 for four doses.
Civil Surgeon Sangeeta Jain said, “We have procured 2,000 injections from the Bathinda warehouse and the injections. The SMOs have been asked to place their demand. Accordingly, the injections would be provided to them at the earliest.”
An average 15 to 20 cases of dog bite are recorded in the district daily. The Animal Birth Control programme in the district is in a shambles, as no serious sterilisation drive has been conducted here since 2021.
Residents of Baltana, Dhakoli, Peermuchalla, and Pabhat have been complaining of stray menace regularly. In July last year, a five-year-old boy and a 30-year-old woman were among 11 persons bitten by a stray dog in a slum area near Rosevilla Housing Society in Kharar.
The dog bite committee in the district has not disbursed relief in an case ever since it came into being on November 13, 2023.
