Four arrested for cheating scrap dealer by posing as cops
The Panchkula police have arrested three locals and one Chandigarh resident for cheating a scrap dealer by allegedly posing as personnel of the Chandigarh Police. They had cheated one Naresh Kumar, a resident of Budhanpur in Panchkula, who works as a scrap dealer, by posing as cops.
In his complaint, Naresh Kumar who has a scrap shop in Sector 11 of Panchkula said December 22 evening of four youths in a car came to his shop and introduced themselves as Chandigarh cops.
Kumar alleged that they forcibly made him sit in their car by threatening to implicate him in a false case of buying parts of a stolen bike. “They demanded Rs 5 lakh to let me go. When I told them that I do not have that much money, they made me transfer Rs 10,000 online into a bank account and took Rs 25,000 from my shop before leaving,” he alleged.
When Kumar got suspicious of their credentials, he lodged a complaint at the Sector 5 police station in Panchkula. The police registered a case under Sections 308(2), 316(2), 318(4) and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and started investigating.
After receiving information about the accused, the Sector 10 outpost in-charge Sub Inspector Gurpal Singh nabbed three accused on Wednesday and took them on two-day remand.
The accused have been identified as Sonu Singh (41), a resident of Saketri in Panchkula, Vishal Arora (32), a resident of Sector 5, Panchkula; and Amit Kumar, a resident of Punjab Colony, Ramgarh.
The fourth accused, Chandan Puri (28), a resident of Pipli Wala Town, Manimajra, Chandigarh, was arrested on the basis of disclosure of his three accomplices.
