A Sector-16 police post team arrested four men red-handed while gambling and recovered cash from the spot. DCP Srishti Gupta informed that on the night of August 16, around 11 pm, a police patrol party received a tip-off that a youth named Sonu was organising gambling near Labour Chowk in Sector 16, Panchkula. Acting on the information, Sector-16 police post in-charge Sinharaj, along with his team, reached the location. Near a tower built alongside a tubewell, four individuals were caught while they were gambling, the DCP said.
Those arrested were identified as Sonu, Lekhraj, Sumit and Arvind — all residents of Indira Colony, Sector 17, Panchkula. An amount of Rs 13,780 in cash was seized from the possession of the accused. A case was registered against them under Section 13 of the Gambling Act at the Sector-14 police station and a probe initiated into the matter.
DCP Srishti Gupta said, “The aim of the Panchkula Police is to maintain law and order in the district and to completely curb illegal activities. Crimes such as gambling, betting or drug abuse weaken society, which is why a zero-tolerance policy has been adopted. Under no circumstances will such individuals be spared.”
