Four held guilty of gang-raping student

The Fast-track Special Court has convicted Rajat Thakur, Yuvraj Singh, Krishna Singh and Harsh in a gang rape case registered two years ago.

The Sector 11 police registered the case under Sections 328, 366, 376 (d), 506 and 120-B, IPC, on January 30, 2023, on a complaint filed by the victim, who was a student of Class XII then.

The victim told the police that on October 15, 2022, she received a call from her male friend around 9 pm. He told her that they would be going to a party and also asked her to bring two of her friends along.

The girl’s male friend, accompanied by two others, picked her and they reached a club in Panchkula around 11 pm. The victim alleged that one of the accused offered her a drink. She felt unwell after taking the drink.

The girl alleged one of the accused raped her after she took the drink. When she gained consciousness, she saw four people in the car who were speaking in Haryanavi language. They took her to a PG accommodation in Chandigarh. Another accused raped here there, she alleged.

During the trial, the Special Public Prosecutor said the prosecution had proved the case beyond a shadow of doubt. The defence counsel argued that the accused were falsely implicated in the case.

After hearing the arguments, the court convicted all the accused. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on April 29.
