Lalru, December 30
The police arrested four persons in a carjacking case and recovered the vehicle from them today. The suspects have been identified as Ravinder Singh, alias Laddu, a resident of Nawanshahr, Jaskaran Singh, a resident of Garhshankar, and Satnam Singh and Jaswinder Singh of Badshahpur village.
A case under Sections 379 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered at the Lalru police station on December 28. The suspects were produced before a Dera Bassi court, which sent them to three-day police remand on December 29.
In his complaint, taxi driver Mohammad Alam, a resident of Saharanpur, stated that his friend Arjun asked him to drop him and three other men from Karnal to Chandigarh. When they reached Lalru, one of Arjun’s friends asked him to stop the car to answer nature’s call. When he stepped out of the car, the other two accomplices pushed him out of the vehicle and fled from the spot with the four-wheeler.
Investigation revealed that the suspects were planning to carry out a major incident by affixing a fake number plate on the car. The police said further questioning of the suspects was likely to lead to important revelations.
Several cases, including serious offenses such as looting, were already registered against Jaskaran Singh, alias Kari, in various districts of Punjab. Satnam Singh and Jaswinder Singh, alias Billa, had already been booked, said the police. — TNS
