The UT police have registered cases of cheating against immigration consultants for duping people on the pretext of sending them abroad.

The police said Himanshu Verma, a resident of Sector 15, had filed a complaint against the owner of Move2abroad Consultation and Services, Sector 9, alleging that he was duped of Rs 9.48 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad.

Another complaint against the same consultancy firm was received from one Paramjit Singh of Patiala, who alleged that he wanted to send his daughter to Canada and paid Rs 15.24 lakh. However, the accused neither sent his daughter abroad nor returned the money.

The owner of the immigration firm has been booked in cases registered at the Sector 3 police station.

In another complaint, one Surinder Pal of Nawanshahar alleged that the owner of GIT Visa Immigration, Sector 9, duped him of Rs 60,000 on the pretext of sending him abroad. A case had been registered and an investigation initiated into it, the police said.
