Four students from Ghaziabad were heading back home in Tavera from Dharampur in Himachal Pradesh. They had to take a bus from the Sector-17 bus stand. Tavera driver, Hast Bahadur (34), a resident of Dharampur, along with two students sitting on the rear seat — Sahil Juneja (22), and Kuldeep Singh (19), died on the spot. Sahil was pursuing BBA, while Kuldeep was an engineering student.

Initially, the police had also registered a case against Tavera driver who had died in the accident, but had to drop it after the intervention of family members of the victims.

After fleeing from the spot, Audi owner Rajat Kapoor (29), a resident of Panchkula, who was behind the wheel, reached Sector 17 police station and claimed that his driver Sukhpal, who was accompanying him, was driving the car when the mishap took place. However, footage from CCTV cameras revealed that Rajat was driving the SUV.
