Residents of Zirakpur, especially office-going people, schoolchildren and shopkeepers, are facing inconvenience as several stretches of VIP Road in Zirakpur are in tatters. The stretch from Dominos Chowk to Skyline Park, which is in a dilapidated condition, is a safety hazard at night.
The worst-hit are residents of Skyline Park, Hollywood 1, South City, Maya Garden Phase 3, Maya Garden Extension, Hermitage Centralis, Milton Tower, Vijay Apartment, Alliance Orchid, Cherry Hills, VIP Enclave, Penta Homes, Milton Tower and Sunshine Park View Society. The residents said they had been suffering hell-like conditions due to broken roads, open sewage lines and slush on stretches for the past three days.
Sonia Sood, former president of Maya Garden, said, "Sewage water has clogged all housing societies, and the emanating stench is unbearable." Shopkeepers on VIP Road said their business had been hit affected adversely due to the situation. Delivery boys too expressed safety concern driving on such a bad stretch.
Sewak Sabha, Zirakpur, president Sandeep Paruthi said: "It has become impossible to come out of homes due to the stench. With no streetlights, these roads have become commuters' nightmare. Vehicles are getting damaged daily."
Twenty representatives from different housing societies today came all the way from Zirakpur to apprise administration officials of their plight as the Zirakpur Municipal Council has failed to address their concern.
Thousands of schoolchildren commuting every day are finding it extremely difficult to board their buses, ride cycles and bikes on the VIP Road.
Vicy Thomas, a resident of SBP South City, said, "We have been facing great difficulty in day-to-day dealings. Delivery, courier and vegetable vendors are not ready to come here."
Zirakpur Executive Officer Ashok Pathariya said: "The sewage line is being upgraded to resolve the problem of clogging permanently. There is some problem with the functioning of STP also. The blockages will be cleared in 15 days time. In one month, the entire road will be repaired with a wider sewage line."
