Furniture destroyed in fire at Sarangpur
A major fire broke out in the godowns of several furniture shops at Sarangpur this morning.
Fire officials said they received a call around 6.55 am. Vehicles from the Sector 11 station were rushed to the spot. The firefighters brought the blaze under control by around noon.
A total of 10 fire tenders were pressed into service immediately. No loss of life was reported and the cause of fire was yet to be ascertained, they added.
Eyewitnesses said the fire broke out around 6 am. The owner of a furniture shop said it caused a substantial loss. The entire furniture lying in the godowns
was destroyed.
According to the officials, the temporary godowns were set up on government and agriculture land.
Another shopkeeper said he received a call from the watchman that a fire had broken out at his godown. By the time he reached the shop, the fire had engulfed the entire godown. Furniture worth lakhs was destroyed in the blaze, he added.
Meanwhile, the officials said a short-circuit could to be the reason behind the fire.
On January 30 last year, five shops were damaged in a fire at the furniture market on the road separating Sectors 53 and 54 here. No loss of life was reported, but goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the blaze. In June 2022, several furniture shops were gutted in a fire at the same market.
