Neighbours first reported the blaze to the fire office and the gathered crowd tried to douse the flame with buckets of water and sand, but failed. Two fire engines were also summoned from Zirakpur to put out the flames. Fire officials said the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained, but furniture and wooden material made it difficult to douse the fire.

Former MLA NK Sharma visited the spot and appealed to the Dera Bassi SDM for compensation for the victim.

In the afternoon, a fire broke out in a field near Adda Jhungian village on the Patiala road. Fire personnel reached the spot and managed to control it in time.
