Gaganpreet’s all-round performance puts city lads in commanding position

Chandigarh bowler Gaganpreet Singh claimed a fifer to restrict Chhattisgarh to 186 runs on Day 2 of their Cooch Behar Trophy match at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium. Earlier, resuming from 321/7, the local team went on to score 398 in their first innings.

Gaganpreet claimed 5/35 to help the hosts gain a 212-run lead, while Ankan Latka claimed 2/14. Yuvraj Singh, Parth and Ishaan picked one wicket each. Earlier, Gaganpreet shined with the bat as well by posting an unbeaten 131 off 280 balls, with 18 balls and one six. He resumed from overnight unbeaten 88, and got support from Yuvraj, who posted 42 off 106 balls, studded with five boundaries and one six. Ishaan also contributed 16.

Chhattisgarh middle-order batter Tejas Morey stole the show as he posted 67 off 15 balls, studded with nine boundaries. He was ably supported by skipper Vikalp Tiwari, who recorded 43 off 60 balls, with seven boundaries. While the top order contributed a major share, the tail-ender batters failed to stick to the crease.

Batters star in Chandigarh’s SMAT win

Arjun Azad and Shivam Bhambri scored important knocks, as Chandigarh senior men’s team logged a four-wicket win over Hyderabad during the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Chasing 146 runs, Chandigarh batters scored 147/6 in 19.5 overs. Azad posted 63 off 48 balls, with eight boundaries and two sixes, while Bhambri posted 42 off 36 balls, studded with five boundaries. The duo was involved in a 68-run stand second wicket.

Earlier, Hyderabad lads posted 146/8 in allotted 20 overs. After losing their both openers, Pragnay Reddy (43) and Aman Rao (33) stabilised the innings with a 75-run stand for third wicket. Jagjit Singh Sandhu claimed 3/36, while Chirag Dhindsa (2/18) and Sandeep Sharma (2/33) shared wickets for the bowling side.

Gujarat humble city lads in Vijay Merchant Trophy

Gujarat lads handed over an innings and 111-run defeat to Chandigarh during the Vijay Merchant U-16 Trophy match, in Shimoga. Resuming from their overnight total of six for no loss, Chandigarh lads bundled out at 144 in the second innings. Gujarat lads had posted 395 in their first innings, and in reply the city batters were back to the team’s hut at 140.

Forced to follow-on, the local batters failed again in the second innings and were packed at 144. The only important contribution was made by skipper Yashjeet Singh, who posted unbeaten 69 off 199 balls, with seven boundaries. Shaurya Prajapati (3/10) was the leading wicket taker for the bowling side.

In the first innings, Chandigarh recorded only one major partnership between skipper Yashjeet and Ankit, as the duo gathered 42 runs for the fourth wicket. Gujarat posted 395 as Aarav Kothari completed 124 off 186 balls, studded with 17 boundaries and one six, while Ridham contributed 60 off 142 balls.
