The Mohali police have busted a gang of thieves that targeted shops and warehouses and arrested nine persons, including three shopkeepers. Stolen goods worth Rs50 lakh have been recovered from the suspects.

The suspects include Jasvir Singh and Sahil, both residents of Jandoli near Rajpura, Sahil and Sulabh, both residents of Rajpura, Ishant Khanna, alias Ishu, and Sahib Singh, alias Sahibpreet Singh, both residents of Kharar.

Divulging details, Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh Virk and DSP (City-1) Gursher Singh Sandhu said a police team, led by Mataur SHO Ashok Kumar, had arrested the suspects following a tip-off. They said during preliminary investigations, the gang members disclosed that they used to commit thefts in the Zirakpur and Mohali areas. They targeted big shops and warehouses and used to sell stolen items to shopkeepers, who have been identified as Naresh, a resident of Rajpura, Munish Kumar, a resident of Rajpura town, and Sanjam Siddi, a resident of Tripri in Patiala. The police said a Mahindra pickup van and a large number of stolen items, including groceries, medicines and sedative tablets worth Rs50 lakh, were recovered from the suspects. They further said the gang had stolen three more Mahindra pickup vans. The cops said the suspects had revealed that they had carried out three thefts in the Zirakpur area and one in Shahimajra.

One of the suspects, Sahil, has done a course in hotel management while Munish was doing D Pharmacy. Jasvir Singh and Ishu were illiterate while the other suspects had studied till Class VIII to XII.

The officials said Ishu had already been booked in five cases while Sahib Singh was facing two cases, Munish one and Jasvir Singh eight cases registered in different police stations. Sahil and Sulabh are brothers while Sahil and Jasvir Singh are a father-son duo. All suspects were produced in a court which remanded them in five-day police custody.
