A Mohali court today acquitted gangsters Dilpreet Baba and Sukhpreet Bhudda in the 2018 extortion call case of Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal due to lack of evidence.
The prosecution failed to prove the charges as the police could not furnish voice messages and chat record in the case.
Complainant Rupinder Singh, popularly known as Gippy Grewal, had stated that he received extortion messages on WhatsApp from different numbers, including a foreign number, and was threatened with dire consequences if the demands were not met.
A case under Sections 387 and 506 of the IPC and the IT Act was registered against Dilpreet Baba at the Phase-8 police station on June 1, 2018.
The court also declared Uttrakhand native Renu, wife of gangster Lucky Padiala, a proclaimed offender in the case as she did not appear before it. Renu was involved in conspiracy.
