Residents of Sector 11 have been grappling with the growing menace of garbage dumping on the roadside and littering around dustbins, turning the area into an eyesore and a health hazard.

The problem is particularly severe around the Rehri Market, adjacent to the Civil Dispensary, where heaps of litter have become a daily nuisance.

Sandeep Kaur, a local resident, expressed her frustration over the negligence of the civic authorities, stating, “The situation has worsened over time. Earlier, the authorities would respond swiftly and impose penalties on shopkeepers and residents responsible for littering. Now, our complaints go unheard and the filth continues to pile up.”

She urged the authorities to take immediate action against erring vendors and ensure proper waste management in the area.

Another resident, Hardeep Singh, said, “The garbage littered passage is the only way to reach the main market in Sector 11D. Walking through it has become extremely difficult due to the foul smell,” he said.

Maninder Samra, a house owner, raised concerns about the potential health risks posed by the garbage. “This unhygienic environment is a breeding ground for diseases,” he warned.

The residents have demanded immediate intervention from the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to clear the garbage and penalise those responsible for its improper disposal.
