Gardener booked for thrashing 10-year-old girl

The police booked a gardener who is a resident of Sheikhpura for allegedly thrashing a 10-year-old girl in Lohara Wala Mohalla of Dera Bassi on Saturday.

The father of the child, Damodar Bhagat, a resident of Lohara Wala Mohalla, lodged against the accused after a video of the elderly man beating his daughter with a slipper and dragging her out of a house by her hair went viral on social media.

The police said the accused was riding his bicycle when a few children hurled a stone at his bike and ran away. Locals said that the incident angered the accused and he got off his bicycle and questioned the children about the incident. The children pointed toward a 10-year-old girl who had run inside a house to hide after the incident.

The video showed the accused beating the 10-year-old with a slipper and dragging her outside by her hair in front of the house owners. At the time of the incident the girl’s father was away at work, while her mother had gone to a neighbour’s house. Later the father of the girl registered a complaint.
