A close confidant of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, he was reportedly upset with the recent appointment of SAD office bearers.

Gill unsuccessfully contested Assembly elections twice in 2017 and 2022, finishing third and second, respectively. In the last polls, the SAD candidate lost to AAP’s Anmol Gagan Mann by a huge margin.

In December 2022, the Income Tax (I-T) Department had raided the Gillco Valley office and residence of Gill.

"He is likely to join a national party soon," sources said.

Gill started as a realtor from Rupnagar in 1990, later moving to Kharar where he set up Gillco Valley township. His other ongoing projects are at the Airport Road and IT City, Mohali.

Gill said: "For past sometime, the party was ignoring the contribution of my workers. Outsiders' influence increased considerably in Kharar. The workers were also upset with the appointment of new office bearers. It is the will of people of Kharar, I am only abiding by it."

On being asked about his proximity with Badal family, Gill said: "I still have the same regard for Badals, but I cannot ignore the will of people of Kharar." Gill is tipped to join the BJP but the realtor-turned politician said he is yet to decide whether to join a party or contest as an independent.
