Glaucoma screening, plantation drive at Sector 32 hospital

Dr Suresh Kumar and Dr Parul Ichhpujani of the Department of Ophthalmology, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, are hosting several programmes for creating awareness on the looming epidemic of glaucoma. The programmes will end on March 14.
World Glaucoma Day was conceptualised for widespread dissemination of information regarding this dreaded disease.
Glaucoma screening are being from 9 am to 1 pm at the eyesight OPD of the GMCH. In addition to eye pressure and optic nerve evaluation, visual fields and advanced investigations as nerve fibre analysis are being carried out for suspected glaucoma patients.
The theme for World Glaucoma Week is ‘Beat Invisible Glaucoma’. Dr Kumar and Dr Ichhpujani will address not only the patients and the hospital personnel but will also visit old age homes. On-site visual field screening will be done using an iPAD-based new test, Melbourne Rapid Field Test. This is being done for the first time in the tricity. A plantation drive will also be carried out on March 13.
