The Municipal Corporation’s Deputy Mayor, Kuljit Singh Bedi, has written to Punjab Chief Minister and Housing Minister, demanding strict action against Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) officials for allegedly obstructing property transfers despite registered wills.

In his letter, Bedi highlighted that individuals who register their wills in favor of their legal heirs are facing unnecessary hurdles from GMADA officials. Despite a valid registered will, the officials refuse to transfer property unless all legal heirs are present, which he termed an outright violation of the law.

“If all legal heirs need to be present for the transfer, then what is the purpose of registering a will in the first place?” Bedi questioned, pointing out that registering a will requires prior appointments, legal formalities, and financial expenses, which makes the process cumbersome, especially for elderly individuals.
