GMCH-32 augments patient care services at south campus

The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, has announced a series of measures to optimise the utilisation of services at its South Campus, Sector 48, with immediate effect. From enhancing timings of OPD and diagnostic tests to enabling day care for cancer patients, the hospital administration hopes that these measures will enhance patient satisfaction. It will also reduce the burden on GMCH-32 with better accessibility across various departments.

Prof AK Attri, Director Principal, GMCH-32, said, “Earlier, the general OPD used to operate from 10 am to 12 noon, but the timing has been increased as per standard OPD timings of any government hospital. Not just the general OPD, but also geriatric OPD related to old patient’s healthcare, will operate daily from 9 am to 1 pm. It is a step towards ensuring convenient access to outpatient services for all age groups.

Prof GP Thami, who had recently taken charge as Medical Superintendent of GMCH-32, said, “Indoor patients from TBRD, radiotherapy, dermatology and psychiatry departments requiring specialist consultations will receive them on call at the South Campus, eliminating the need for patient transfers to GMCH-32. It has been a week since day care for cancer patients has started at the South Campus.” Plans are also underway to start an Amrit Pharmacy or chemist shop for Ayushman card holders, enabling them to procure medicines without having to go to the GMCH-32.

There have also been security enhancements as two security guards will be deployed in the OPD area to ensure patient safety and smooth functioning. These measures are part of GMCH’s ongoing efforts to decentralise services and make healthcare more accessible to residents.
