The Department of Cardiology at the GMCH-32 here has performed a complex and high-risk (CHIP) OCT-guided angioplasty of highly calcified left main bifurcation.

Dr Sreenivas Reddy said this angioplasty was performed on a 67-year-old person, who was hypertensive and diabetic and was having recurrent episodes of heart failure for the past one month.

Dr Jeet Ram Kashyap, Professor of Interventional Cardiology, discussed the option of performing this high-risk angioplasty with the support of Impella device.

Impella is the only non-surgical heart pump technology that has been approved by the USFDA as a safe and effective solution for a certain set of high-risk patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (angioplasty). —
