Two students of Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 have come up with an innovative approach to tackle fomite mediated Covid-19 transmission.

Developed by Dr. Hargunbir Singh and Dr. Adhish Beri, this ‘Mobile Hand washing Station’ comprises of an automated soap dispenser to dispense soap, a foot pedal switch to toggle the flow of water and an automatic air dryer for drying of hands, this station allows one to complete the entire hand washing ritual without virtually touching any piece of equipment with one’s hands.

An additional advantage of this setup is its inbuilt water tank which provides sufficient water for at least 100 washes and an inbuilt drainage tank to collect the used water. This setup thus not only battles the recent Covid-19 pandemic but also provides a more efficient solution of the age old problem of water scarcity, by promoting conservative water utilisation and management. —TNS
