Chandigarh, July 8
The girls’ team of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, and the boys’ team of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, have qualified for the national leg of the Subroto Cup Football Tournament, scheduled to be held in the National Capital. Both teams won their respective finals of the pre-Subroto Cup, in Chandigarh.
The Sector 22 team ousted Government Senior Secondary School, Khuda Lahora, 4-0. After struggling for initial minutes, the Sector 22 eves gathered confidence and found the breakthrough in the 34th minute. Manish netted the first goal for the side. She doubled the lead in the 42nd minute, while Vanshika took the lead further to 3-0 in the 48th minute. Khushi netted the final goal in the 58th minute to confirm their Delhi ticket.
In the boys’ final, the Sector 37 team, represented by the trainees of Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA), logged an identical 4-0 win over St Soldier School, Sector 28. Thangjam Thoihenba and M Ningombam netted two goals each in the team’s win. Thoihenba started the winning proceedings for the Sector 37 team by netting the ball over the goal line in the second minute. M Ningombam extended the lead to 2-0 in the 10th minute, followed by another goal in the 14th minute. Thoihenba scored his second in the 29th minute, before the match ended before the stipulated time.
Meanwhile, Air Force School, Gorakhpur, of Central Air Command emerged as champions of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament qualifiers, which concluded at Air Force School, Chandigarh. The event was held at Air Force School Chandigarh.
