Go plastic-free at community centres, get 25% off

Panchkula, December 13

In a bid to make the city plastic-free, the Panchkula MC has decided to offer 25 per cent discount on rent to those holding plastic-free events at community centres.

Rajesh Jogpal, MC Commissioner, said, "Under this scheme, anybody organising marriage parties or other events in a plastic-free manner (no use of single-use plastic) will be offered a discount of 25 per cent on the rent. An audit will be conducted by MC officers, who will verify non-use of plastic and the party will submit photo as well as video evidence to claim the discount."

Their efforts will be recognised at the district level where such organisers will be felicitated by the MC at a function. “This scheme is inspired by a girl child of St Vivekanand Millennium School, Pinjore, who, at a plastic-free awareness camp, shared that she was planning to get her sister's engagement function held in a plastic-free way," said Jogpal. — TNS
