Governor calls for public participation to eliminate TB

A special event was held at Punjab Raj Bhawan on World Tuberculosis (TB) Day to reaffirm the commitment towards TB elimination and improved healthcare. The event was presided over by Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, and brought together government officials, health experts and community representatives to strengthen the TB awareness and treatment efforts.

In his address, Governor Kataria emphasised the importance of public participation in the fight against TB. He stated that the goal of a TB-free India can only be achieved through sustained awareness, collective action and strong government initiatives. “Jan Sahyog (public cooperation) is essential for TB elimination and we must work together to achieve this goal,” he said.

Dr Suman Singh, Managing Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), highlighted the progress made in TB prevention and control. She detailed key measures under the 100-day intensified TB campaign, especially in vulnerable communities. Dr Singh stressed the importance of \Be\Barly diagnosis, timely treatment and comprehensive patient care to reduce the TB burden.

The contributions of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Nikshay Mitras and TB Champions were also recognised during the event. These groups have played a crucial role in raising awareness and supporting TB patients. Under the initiative, nutrition baskets were distributed to the TB patients to provide essential nutritional support, helping to improve recovery and overall health.
