Chandigarh, July 25
The CBI has received prosecution sanction against Sub-Inspector (SI) Balwinder Singh and ASI Harmeet Singh of the Chandigarh Police, who were arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in April this year.
Narender Singh, Public Prosecutor, had moved an application before the CBI court for filing of sanction order in respect of the accused and adding the name of the sanctioning authority, SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, in the list of witnesses.
The SI was posted at the Sector 17 police station and the ASI in the PO and Summon cell of the UT police.
The CBI has already filed a chargesheet against the accused wherein it claimed that they had demanded a bribe for not registering an FIR and closing a complaint against the complainant, Anil Kumar, who was accused of stealing a cheque in 2019.
Since, Kumar did not want to pay the bribe, he lodged a complaint with the CBI, ACB, Chandigarh. The complainant stated that a person had lodged a complaint against him at the Sector 17 police station for theft of bank cheques.
The complainant alleged that ASI Harmeet Singh came to his shop and told him that the SI had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The complainant claimed that the amount was negotiated and reduced to Rs 40,000. After receiving the complaint, a trap was laid and the accused arrested.
