Unruly scenes were again witnessed on the Panjab University campus on Tuesday, after singer Gurdas Maan's nite was cancelled. This is the second such event in the recent time, which was called off.

The authorities claimed that today's event was cancelled after organisers failed to procure permission from the UT Administration. Notably, despite not getting the permission for the event, the stage with proper lighting was set up on the campus. However, the officials claim that the students set the stage on their own.

"Panjab University (PU) has always been committed to supporting and encouraging festivals and cultural events organised by students. In this spirit, permission for the said function was granted, subject to obtaining the necessary approval from the Chandigarh administration.

However, the event could not take place as the students concerned were unable to secure the requisite permissions from the Chandigarh administration. In the same spirit, students were allowed to set up the stage today at their own risk," said the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), Panjab University.

Meanwhile, the students staged a protest on the stage meant for the singer's performance. The students were seen openly threatening university officials, whom they accused of cancelling the show deliberately. Last week, after failing to manage the crowd, the university authorities cancelled the live concert of Punjabi singer Arjan Dhillon, who was scheduled to perform at the fest “Jhankar”. Sources claimed the authorities did not take a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Chandigarh Police or the UT Administration for organising such a large-scale event. It was also decided to organise such events at the south (Sector 25) and making prior permission mandatory for such events, but this event was schedule on the main campus today.
