Gurseerat wins boxing gold in junior girls championship

Gurseerat Kaur of the Sector 42 Boxing Coaching Centre defeated Kamya Chauhan of St Joseph’s School, Sector 44, to win the 80+kg category gold medal during the 20th Junior Girls Chandigarh State Boxing Championship at the Sector 42 sports complex. Prachi Khatri of Sector 42 team won the 75-80kg category by defeating Ridhima of Sector 44 team, while Vanshika of SD Club defeated Ravi of St Joseph’s to win the 70-75kg final.

In the final of the 66-70kg event, Sehjta of Sector 42 Club defeated Prabhleen Kaur of RSC Centre, while Kavya Nautiyal of St Joseph’s ousted Bhavya of Sector 42 team to win the 63-66kg final. In the 60-63kg category, Jyoti Sharma of the Sector 32 Club won the title by defeating Manya of St Joseph’s and Pratima of Sector 42 club won the 54-57kg final by defeating Yadvi of St Joseph’s. Mehak of St Joseph’s won the 52-54kg final by defeating Himani Kaushal of Government Model School, Maloya.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Navneet Kaur of Friends Club defeated Mannu of Eagle Club in the 44-46kg category and Jennat Malik of Sector 42 team ousted Mannat Chauhan of Burail Club. Srishti of the Sector 56 Coaching Centre outplayed Mannu of Eagle Club. In the 46-48kg category, Niti of SD School, Sector 32, registered win against Reema of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20, and Gursimrat of Shivalik School, Sector 41, defeated Gurleen Kaur of St Joseph’s.

In the 50-52kg event, Angel of St Joseph’s posted win over Kranti of Friends Club and in the 52-54kg semis, Mehak of Sector 42 team defeated Himani Kaushal of Government Model School, Maloya.

In the 44-46kg final, Jeenat Malik defeated Many Priya of the Eagle Club to win the gold medal, while Shrishti of Sector 56 team and Mannat Chauhan of Burail Club finished at the joint third position. In the 46-48kg final, Niti of Sector 32 school overpowered Gursimrat Kaur of Sector 41 team, while Reema of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20, and Gurleen Kaur of St Joseph’s claimed the joint third position. Nisha of Maloya school won the 48-50kg final by defeating Manisha of Sector 56 Centre, and in the 50-52kg final, Kaanti of Friends’ Club defeated Nikita of the Maloya School and Angel of St Joseph’s claimed the bronze medal.

Ishika of Sector 32 school won the 57-60kg gold. Jeenat Malik of Sector 42 centre was adjudged best boxer of the tournament, while Kavya Nautiyal of St Joseph’s was named most promising boxer. The team of Sector 42 Boxing Centre won the overall championship, while Government Model Senior Secondary School, Maloya, and SD Club won the overall joint second position.
