Guru Gobind Singh Hockey Club to face Chandigarh Hockey Academy in finals

The teams of Chandigarh Hockey Academy (Red) will face Sri Guru Gobind Singh (SGGS) Hockey Club in both finals of the men and women categories during the Chandigarh State Junior Hockey Championships being held at the Sector 42 sports complex, on Tuesday.

In the first women’s semifinal played today, Chandigarh Hockey Academy team outclassed Panjab University Hockey Club 11-0. Pooja scored four goals, while Prinka netted two in the team’s win. Harvinder started the proceedings for the winning team as she netted the first goal in the 2nd minute. Just two minutes after, Pooja converted a penalty corner, while Simran extended the lead to 3-0 in the 20th minute.

Vedangi then scored another goal to make it 4-0 for the academy team, while Ranjot netted the fifth goal in the 26th minute. Pooja netted her second in the 27th minute, followed by a stunning goal by Tamanna in the 36th minute. Prinka scored back-to-back goals (37th, 38th), while Pooja (40th, 48th) added two more and ensured a one-sided win for the side.

In the other semifinal, SGGS team ousted Chandigarh Hockey Academy (Blue) 4-0. The academy girls were never in command as Kajal drew the first blood in the 23rd minute through a field goal. In the 32nd minute, she doubled the lead by converting a penalty corner. Thereafter, Muskan made it 3-0 in the 37th minute and Parneet netted the final goal in the 41st minute.

In the men’s category, Chandigarh Hockey Academy (Red) team defeated their Blue counterparts 4-2. Misbah put the Red team ahead in the 14th minute, but Punnet levelled the scores for the Blue team by converting a penalty corner. The Red team once again gained lead through Damanpreet in the 23rd minute and scored more goals as Sukhpreet (25th) and Prabhjot (31st) sounded the wooden plank.

In the 48th minute, Harmanpreet pulled off one for the Blue team, but at the final whistle, the Red team managed to maintain the one-goal lead. The SGGS Club won the second semifinal by registering a 6-1 win over Panjab University Club. Joban helped SGGS to gain the lead in the second minute of the match through a penalty corner. Rishav then netted the second in the 9th minute, while Rohit positioned the side well by scoring the third in the 15th minute. Rishav found his second in the 21st minute, while Mangal (24th) and Prabhjot (39th) completed the tally of six goals for SGGS. Jitender scored a lone consoling goal for the university team in the 47th minute.
